Supporting Modern Urban Transit in Riyadh

DASCO played a crucial role in the development of the Riyadh Metro Line 4 & 6 Viaduct, specifically focusing on the Edge Unit. This project involved complex engineering and construction to deliver a state-of-the-art transit system for the Kingdom's capital.

Our work encompassed the supply and installation of key structural and aesthetic elements, contributing to both the functionality and visual appeal of the metro lines.

  • Structural Steel: 15,000 Metric Tons
  • Cladding Façade: 333,253 Square Meters 
  • Handrail: 63 Kilometers 
  • Noise Barrier Wall: 17.5 Kilometers 

Design, Plan, & Constructability Challenges & Solutions

DASCO developed and fabricated the Edge Unit to adhere to strict building codes and project specifications, addressing several key challenges:

1. Specimen Real-Life Pressure Test

We conducted a real-life size specimen test to perform crucial pressure tests, ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the Edge Unit components under actual operating conditions. 

2. Moving Platform Design

A specialized Moving Platform was designed to solve the constructability issue of reaching challenging areas, facilitating efficient and safe work in elevated sections of the viaduct. 

3. Double Curve Alignment Detail

Detailed alignment solutions were developed to address the complexities of the double curve sections, ensuring precise installation and seamless integration of the metro structure.

Mockup Process

DASCO performed thorough mockups to ensure the detailed design was adequate for the site conditions and to address critical factors:

  • First, obtaining approval for the Master Schedule Test (MST). 
  • Second, validating shop drawings. 
  • Third, ensuring seamless coordination among all teams.
